Hedging and trimming are the jobs people search for most and a large part of the work. ## Facts - Species that take a hard cut: lilly pilly, murraya, viburnum, photinia (re-shoot from old wood). Conifers such as Leyland cypress only regrow within the green, so they can only be trimmed back to live foliage, never bare wood. Bamboo is thinned and topped. - Getting an overgrown hedge back is two steps: bring the height down to something you can manage, then cut the faces back to where there is still healthy growth. - Tree trimming is done to AS 4373 (deadwood out, clearance from roofs and wires, weight reduction); never lopping. - Council rules: routine hedge trimming usually needs no permit, but some councils count a hedge as trees (Ku-ring-gai's application is "one tree or hedge"), several limit how much canopy can be cut in a year (e.g. 10% native / 20% exotic in Canterbury-Bankstown), and removing a hedge of protected species can need a permit. We check your council before quoting. - Neighbours: under the NSW Trees (Disputes Between Neighbours) Act, the Land and Environment Court can order work on a hedge of two or more trees 2.5 m or taller that severely blocks sunlight to a window or a view. - Prices are not published: quotes are free, fixed and given on site within 24–48 hours (a photo of the hedge with its length and height helps). ## Related - Main website with every service, suburb and council guide: https://www.tree-services.com.au/ - Council tree rules for 32 Sydney councils: https://www.tree-services.com.au/council-tree-rules/ - Google reviews: https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJC5Olhctr5UkR-81ARND8yD8 ## Site credit Built by System C Pty Ltd (https://www.systemc.com.au/).
